At Urban Flora we design gardens. Whilst we don't install gardens ourselves, we can certainly point you in the direction of contractors we trust who can. We can make recommendations for gardeners to maintain your garden once it's done or give advice if you choose to DIY.

How does it all work?

Once you've decided you'd like a new garden or to improve your existing one, then the first thing to do is get in contact with us for a chat.  We'll then arrange to meet you on site to see your garden for ourselves and take a brief from you free of charge.  At this stage most people know pretty much what they want, but if you're unsure we can help you narrow it down.

We'll then send you a quote to provide a Garden Concept Plan package. Should you accept, we will come back to site to measure up your property and iron out the brief.  We will later provide you with our drafted plan.  After feedback we will make any tweaks if necessary before we provide the final plan.

What is a Garden Concept Plan?

A concept plan is a 2D scaled drawing of your property including your house and boundaries that will show our design intentions for your garden.  All new hardscaping and planting is shown on the plan including plant quantities and locations.  Essentially you should be able to give this plan to your builder or landscape contractor (who builds landscapes as opposed to designing them) and they will be able to install your garden from it.

Our concept plan packages include a mood board with images to show the aesthetic we are aiming for, the concept plan with a planting palette and a second version of the concept plan with annotations.  We may add artistic impressions/sketches if we think they might help express our ideas, but generally if you require 3D imagery it is at additional cost.

What does a Garden Concept Plan package cost?

Generally a plan will cost between $1,500 - $2,500.  This is dependant on a number of factors such as the complexity of the design and the contour of the land.  For example, a large sloped section with a pool in the design will cost more than a small city courtyard.

Traditionally a concept plan would not have included specific plant placement and quantities, so you would often be required to purchase a planting plan too.  At Urban Flora we use CAD (computer aided drawing) for our plans, and find you can combine them both easily on the same drawing thus avoiding extra cost.

"Crystal was a joy to work with - super relaxed, reassuring and accommodating, but always a professional.  We entered the consultation process with Crystal with a scope in mind but through discussion and coaching we found we pivoted to a much-improved design position.  Crystal’s keen eye for detail and her sympathetic ear meant our ideas were included and improved upon.  The quality of the work produced is excellent!  We are happy DIY’ers and we received enough information to comfortably tackle the project ourselves.  Crystal has also been available for a few follow up questions.  The proof of Crystals work is in the comments we receive from friends that we excitedly show the designs to.  The common response is “Wow, she’s done a good job”.  Ben & Fran, Sandringham
